Abstract: |
Archaeology South-East was commissioned by Richard Stevenson to undertake an archaeological watching brief at Stablebrook, Wisborough Lane, Storrington, West Sussex, RH20 4ND (NGR TQ 50932 14322) during site investigation works associated with redevelopment of the site. The watching brief took place from 13nd July 2012 to 8th April 2013. The groundwork programme included archaeological monitoring of groundwork in the footprint of the proposed new building, monitoring of two test pits within extant outbuildings, and external excavations associated with the construction of a treatment tank and soakaway. These areas were entirely monitored as part of the watching brief. Monitored groundwork resulted in the identification and recording of 11 small pits and postholes of 19th/early 20th century date, scattered across much of the new building footprint. Natural geology was revealed 0.45m below ground level and was overlain by buried topsoil and made ground deposits. This sequence was overlain by the floors and their associated makeup within the outbuildings. |
