Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology at the Tottenham Hale Centre London, N17 9LB. The work was commissioned by RPS on behalf of Argent. Seven evaluation trenches were excavated. The earliest deposit encountered on site was natural brickearth. Levels taken on the natural deposits suggested the natural topography of the site slopes downwards slightly to the southeast in the direction of the River Lea. A ditch dated to the medieval period with a north-west by south-east orientation, also containing late Mesolithic or early Neolithic worked flints was recorded in the west of the site. The medieval features were sealed by post-medieval agricultural horizons. Made ground, dated to the 20th century was found to form the current ground surface level. |
