Abstract:
The excavation revealed a modest range of deposits representing Middle and Late Bronze Age occupation, and Roman and post-medieval land division. The Bronze Age is represented by a small group of pits, one of which produced a radiocarbon date of 946-832 cal BC (UBA39418). No Roman occupation was revealed but Roman pottery and field boundaries revealed evidence of an organised landscape, presumably from a farm complex located nearby. Finally several field boundaries of post-medieval date were recorded again reflecting the presence of an organised landscape which was remodelled. Interestingly none of these boundaries were depicted on 18th/19th century maps suggesting that they might reflect an earlier, undocumented phase of landuse after medieval times.
