Abstract:
Five fields (Areas 1-5) were investigated magnetically; resistance survey was also attempted in Area 5. Data from Areas 1 and 3 show the linear boundary ditch that is also visible on aerial photographs crossing the landscape. Both areas contain a number of pit and short ditch lengths, possibly associated with the ditch. Area 2 (within the main field surveyed by Bournemouth University) was positioned to accurately pinpoint a ring ditch (visible on the earlier survey) and other features of interest, prior to their excavation by Time Team. Area 4, to the north of the main complex and south of the Romano-British building, proved to be largely magnetically quiet with just a few anomalies of potential interest. Nothing comparable to the anomalies in the Bournemouth Survey was discovered. The previously known Romano-British building is situated within Area 5. Results from the resistance survey simply produced large areas of high resistance; no building detail was defined as the ground conditions were poor for survey. Magnetically, the results were similar, although an area of increased magnetic response corresponded to the high resistance.
