Abstract: |
Between the 1st November and 8th November 2016 Oxford Archaeology carried out a topographic survey of a field of earthworks located in Zone R of the Beaulieu Park Development, Chelmsford, Essex (TL 7359 1056). The survey covered a total area of 1.50ha of short grazed pasture land. The earthworks consisted of eight major features identifiable to type including four ditches, two with associated banks, ridge and furrow cultivation, a levelled area and several hollows. The maximum depth of the earthworks was 0.80m. The earthworks may be dated by the medieval ridge and furrow which appear to be the earliest features, with all other features overlying and being later than these. |
