Abstract: |
John Moore Heritage Services carried out an archaeological evaluation on land at 17 Church Gate, Thatcham, West Berkshire. Two machine-dug trenches were excavated across the proposed footprints of new-builds. In Trench 1 two small pits or postholes of uncertain date, one possible post-medieval drain and modern sewerage were investigated. In Trench 2, two ditches possibly of late medieval date, one large cesspit dated late 14th or early 15th century and presumably post-medieval garden futures were discovered. One residual Neolithic or Bronze Age flint flake and fragments of possible Roman tile represented earlier activities on site or within the area. |
