Abstract:
This Interim report describes the results of Phase 1 of an archaeological trial trench evaluation carried out by Pre-Construct Archaeology on land at Manor Farm, Drayton, Norfolk (NGR TG 1820 1390) between the 5th and 6th June 2017. The archaeological work was commissioned by Orion Heritage Consulting prior to a proposed new residential development. The aim of the work was to characterise the archaeological potential of the proposed development area. The principal result of the evaluation was the discovery of two ditches and a pit within Trench 33. One of the ditches, ditch [11], appeared to date to the early medieval period, with the other two features very likely to be related to it. Ditch [11] and pit [09] each contained burnt clay fragments possibly derived from a wattle-and-daub structure indicating that there was perhaps some settlement activity in the vicinity of the site. The two ditches appeared to have been identified as geophysical anomalies.
