Abstract: |
Archaeological evaluation and subsequent excavation was carried out at Land at Ingram's Piece. Six trenches were excavated within the development area. Topsoil and subsoil overlay natural deposits of sand and gravel. Three of the trenches contained archaeological features comprising of a ditch and some pits of prehistoric date. Due to the presence of archaeology a 1015 square metre area was subsequently stripped within the site of the proposed development overlying the archaeology found during the evaluation.. The excavations revealed a prehistoric activity in the form of a ditch running across the site. Associated pits and post holes were found in the north west corner of the site. There were a number of undated pits and post holes on the site. It is likely that these also date to the prehistoric period. |
