Abstract: |
In November 2019 Oxford Archaeology excavated 49 trial trenches at the site of proposed mineral extraction on land west of Ironbridge power station. The trenches were positioned to ground-truth the results of a geophysical survey. The majority of the trenches were devoid of archaeological remains but a sporadic distribution of undated ditches, not picked up by the geophysical survey, was identified in several trenches (5, 9, 15, 20, 31,42 and 47), as well as two pits in Trench 21, one of which contained an animal skeleton. A treethrow hole in Trench 13 contained Neolithic pottery and flint, while a ditch that extended through Trenches 9 and 15 contained post-medieval pottery. |
