Abstract:
Trent and Peak Archaeology were commissioned by Anglian Water to conduct an archaeological trial trench evaluation on land to the north of Ulceby, North Lincolnshire (TA 1050 1557) between 29th and 30th April 2019 (Figure 1). The site lies approximately 500m north of the village of Ulceby in North Lincolnshire. The site is enclosed on all sides by mature hedgerows, and is bounded to the west and north by arable fields. The eastern and southern edges of the site are adjacent to Thornton Lane which encompasses the south-east corner of the site. On the opposite side of Thornton Lane to the east is arable fields and on its opposite side to the south is a residential area. The evaluation comprised the excavation of one trench, measuring c.30m x 2m (Figure 1). This trench was positioned within the confines of the proposed site of a pipe storage area. No archaeological features were identified within the trench, although two modern field drains were encountered.
