Abstract: |
This report presents the results of archaeological works undertaken in relation to a proposed housing development at Redmains Farm, Pencaitland, East Lothian (NGR: NT 44609 69183). The works were to originally consist of the archaeological monitoring of nine SI pits together with an archaeological evaluation requiring a 5% trenching sample (675 linear metres) of the proposed 2.75 hectare development area. However, due to restricted access a total of seven SI pits were monitored and a total 575 linear metres were excavated. Trenching revealed two plough-soils overlying predominant drift geology of glacial clays. The natural was cut by 19th century ceramic drains set at 5.0 m intervals. No significant archaeological material was observed. |
