Abstract: |
During a period of reduced water levels, a programme of timber sampling was carried on Eaderloch crannog, Highland, in October 2007, with the aim of collecting samples of the pine lattice encountered by Ritchie during his excavations in the 1940s. Over 40 exposed timbers were recorded on the site, including the remains of the rectangular lattice reported by Ritchie and several upright piles, though the majority of these were found to be birch (Betula sp.). The exposed timbers were sampled and a detailed topographic survey was carried out. The peaty 'vegetable deposit' underlying the main boulder mound was also sampled. |
