Abstract:		 Exmoor is an extensive upland landscape bounded by the coast to the north, the Culm and Devon Redlands to the south and the Vale of Taunton to the east. Short, steep-sided river valleys cut dramatically into the central moorlands from the north and similar, but longer rivers intrude from the south. Only 2% of the Character Area is defined as urban, and 80% is agricultural land, whilst 52% forms part of Exmoor National Park, and 16% is defined as Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
