Abstract: |
Headland Archaeology (UK) Ltd undertook a programme of archaeological trial trenching works on land north of Carlaverock Farm, Tranent. The work was required to help inform decisions regarding the future use of the land and the submitted planning applications. A total of 154 trenches were excavated across site, including several targeted trenches, to achieve a 5% evaluation of site. A probable Iron Age enclosure ditch was identified from cropmarks, which was located through evaluation trenches. Several post-medieval field boundaries were also identified across site, some of which appear on historic mapping. 20th century mineshafts were also present, and disturbance across site reflected the associated industrial works. |
