Abstract: |
An archaeological strip, map and record was undertaken in advance of groundworks for the construction of a grain store at Copse Barn, Bagnor Manor, Berkshire (NGR SU 44316 70241). The earliest evidence for activity comprised a small sub-ovoid pit containing burnt flint; this was broadly dated as prehistoric on the basis of the flint, however more precise dating was not possible due to the lack of any diagnostic fragments. No further activity was noted until the medieval or post medieval period, when ridge and furrow cultivation was established over the northern half of the site. This survived as heavily truncated furrows and no artefactual evidence was recovered to provide a more precise date for their use. |
