Abstract: |
Evaluation and excavation of a 3rd to 4th century small 'villa rustica' complex, comprising three buildings with stone foundations. Building 1 may have been a bath house. Building 2 may have been an agricultural building or mill house. Building 3 had an extensive heating system of box flue tile and may represent a dwelling. The buildings were arranged around a possible yard devoid of archaeological features and were surrounded to the west and north by ditched agricultural encosures. The enclosures contained pits and a clunch-lined well. Analysis of the building materials showed several phases of house building, and evidence for further buildings beyond the limit of excavation. |
