Abstract: |
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Gotelee Orchard-Lisle Chartered Architects on behalf of Yattendon Estates to create a historic building record of the Grade II listed Royal Oak Public House (PH) at Yattendon, Berkshire. Conditional planning permission (ref: 17/01297/FUL) and listed building consent (ref: 17/01298/LBC2) were granted for redevelopment proposals to the building which included the construction of a new dining room and WCs to the rear of the existing building, remodelling of the existing kitchen, the relocation of the existing oil tank and minor internal alterations. A planning condition of the work imposed by West Berkshire Council required a Historic England Level 2 (descriptive) record of the building prior to the commencement of the redevelopment work. The Royal Oak Public House (PH) is located in The Square, Yattendon, Berkshire, RG18 0UG and centred on National Grid Reference (NGR) 455238 174519. The survey included documentary, cartographic and fabric analysis of the general building focussing on areas that were scheduled for redevelopment. Measured survey and digital photography were used to illustrate these areas. |
