Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation and earthwork survey was undertaken by Worcestershire Archaeology (WA) during September to November 2019 at Avanti Fields School, Leicester. Thirteen evaluation trenches were excavated. Two features of later prehistoric date and one undated gully were identified. These features were not identified as anomalies by the geophysical survey. They probably relate to the Iron Age settlement to the north but are likely to be peripheral landscape features rather than a direct continuation of the settlement. Given the later prehistoric date of the identified features and their likely relationship with the Iron Age settlement to the north the features identified during the evaluation are of local significance. The topographic survey recorded the extant ridge and furrow which survives at the site. It is of local significance as a remnant historic landscape feature, although it has been compromised by later activity reducing its significance. |
