Abstract: |
Between the 28th August and the 4th September 2018 York Archaeological Trust undertook monitoring of geoarchaeological trial pits at Lilling Green, Strensall (SE 65024 63189). Archaeological monitoring of site investigations for the Five Year Flood Management Plan for York (FMP) was undertaken for Capita. The work was based on a Written Scheme of Investigation produced by YAT. The works involved the monitoring and recording of 21 trial pits. Natural deposits were encountered at depths between 0.5m and 4m BGL and comprised of clay, sandy clay and sand deposits. These evidenced the alluvial and fluvial activity of the River Foss, with wood preserved in the fluvial waterlogged deposits close to the river. |
