Desk-based Assessment to be submitted a supporting evidence for a planning application. The Desk-based Assessment has identified a low to moderate potential for remains of prehistoric date; a moderate potential for remains of Roman date; a low potential for remains of the Saxon date; a moderate to high potential for remains of medieval date; a moderate potential for remains of Post-medieval date and a high potential for remains of modern date to survive.

An evaluation by trial trenching was carried out at '38 Barnard Road, Norwich, Norfolk' as a planning condition associated with proposed industrial development of the site and to aid decisions regarding further mitigation. It seems likely that land was being partitioned for agricultural purposes during the prehistoric period though finds were extremely rare and environmental evidence provided little supporting information. Evidence associated with modern development of this industrial site was recorded.

A programme of archaeological mitigation - Phase 1 evaluation by trial trenching was carried out at 'Land to the Rear of All Saints' Church, Weston Longville, Norfolk' prior to a proposed extension to the existing cemetery and residential development of the site and to aid decisions regarding further mitigation. Very few archaeological remains were encountered. A small probable pit in Trench 1 produced a sherd of possible Early Neolithic pottery and post-dates a feature of unknown function. A further pit-like feature was present in Trench 1 though produced no finds. A fragment slag-like material was recovered through metal-detecting close to Trench 1 indicating metal-working debris in the vicinity of the site though a date was not established. A linear feature of unknown date or function was present in Trench 4 and a linear feature probably formed through 'natural' processes was present in Trench 7. No features were present in trenches 2, 3, 5 or 6. Finds were very sparse. A piece of 18th/19th century farm machinery was recovered through metal-detecting close to Trench 5.

Evaluation by trial trenching prior to proposed residential development revealed no archaeological remains and modern disturbance was recorded across most of the site.

Initial phases of a programme of archaeological mitigation were carried out at 'Broadland Gate, Norwich, Norfolk' prior to construction of an access road that forms part of a wider programme of mitigatory work. A first phase of informative trial trenching was carried out in November/December 2017 followed by archaeological monitoring during construction of the access road. The programme of archaeological mitigation requires additional trial trenching on the remainder of the development site to aid decisions regarding further mitigation. Very few archaeological remains were encountered. Two undated linear features and a large pit/linear butt-end Post-medieval feature were present in Trench 3 and no further archaeological remains were encountered during the trial trenching. An undated probable hearth, possibly of prehistoric date, was recorded during monitoring. Multi-period finds recovered through metal-detecting indicate activities from the prehistoric to Post-medieval and modern periods.

PoAMW to commence with Trial Trenching prior to residential development revealed no archaeological remains.

PoAMW in advance of rural commercial development. Two of the 9 excavated trenches revealed no archaeological remains. Activities during the earlier Neolithic (4000 to 3001 BC) and late Neolithic or early Bronze Age period (2600-1800BC) were indicated through the recovery of finds. Land partition or other activities may have occurred during the later prehistoric to Roman periods. The majority of the evidence relates to land partition during the early- to mid- Roman period (mid/late-1st to mid-2nd century AD), which is of interest as excavations on the adjacent (to the east) Plot 2b and east of Plot 2b identified activities associated with a farmstead during the mid- to late-Roman period (mid-3rd century AD). The recovery of unstratified finds indicate activities during the Post-medieval and modern periods.

Monitoring and informative trenching prior to urban residential development. Evidence for activities during the Late medieval and early Post-medieval periods was recorded, probably relating to activities associated with buildings on the eastern frontage of St Augustine's Street, including a drapers or dressmakers workshop probably during the 15th-17th centuries. Evidence relating to the rear of plots of late-19th century date and later, including a probable yard surface, was also recorded.

A programme of archaeological mitigatory work commencing with informative trial trenching at 'Land at Creake Road and Joan Shorts Lane, Burnham Market, Norfolk', prior to development comprising the construction of a general practitioner surgery and associated access road and car park. Evidence for activities during the prehistoric, Roman, Saxon and Post-medieval periods was indicated through the recovery of finds. The majority of activities probably date to the 13th or 14th centuries and include occupation and land partition, with indications of possible industrial activities, and likely relate to cropmarks on and in the vicinity of the site recorded from aerial photographs. No evidence associated with the nearby Bronze Age barrow cemetery or Middle Saxon settlement was observed.

Eval by trial trenching following geophysical survey with relation to rural residential and commercial development. Undated possible remains of a ring ditch and a linear feature of possible late-medieval/Post-medieval date that correspond to anomalies recorded during a previous geophysical survey were recorded.
