An archaeological evaluation was carried out within a timber framed house, on an earth floor. Layers of rammed earth and clay were observed and an original medieval surface containing pottery. [Au(abr)]

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken at the site. A pit or gully containing Saxon pottery and a possible early Holocene palaeochannel were identified. [Au(adp)]

Evaluation trenches were excavated at the site. Late Saxon/Saxo-Norman features were identified, comprising of post holes, chalk surfaces and a beam slot. 12th-16th surfaces possibly associated with buildings were identified. Large pits, in a possible yard area, possibly used for industrial/craft activity, of a late post-medieval date, were also encountered. [Au(adp)]

In April 2015 NPS Archaeology carried out archaeological monitoring and excavation ahead of redevelopment at 150-152 Magdalen St. Norwich. The work was conducted on behalf of and funded by Mr Oliver Tookman. The plot is located on the inside of the medieval city wall, a scheduled monument.The work followed earlier evaluation of the site. A cluster of medieval waste pits were probably situated in the back plot of a medieval structure, of which no trace survived, fronting Magdalen st. Two probable mineral extraction pits were recorded towards the west end of the plot. Walls belonging to an early post-medieval building were recorded towards the rear of the plot. After a programme of dumping of deposits deriving from both demolition events and domestic waste disposal a large post-medieval cellar with adjoining barrel vault was constructed. This was later remodelled and a further cellar constructed on the street frontage. Structural elements and services associated with the recently demolished 1960s building occupying the site were also recorded.

Evaluation trenches were excavated at the site. The trenches identified 19th/20th century pits and ditches, of possible agricultural origins. [Au(adp)]

An archaeological excavation was carried out on the site. A sequence of make up and levelling layers were observed. The first possibly relates to the construction of the medieval St. George Street Bridge, the second sequence relates to the construction of the 14th century friary. In between the deposits was a large pit. Structural remains of post-medieval date were also identified. [Au(abr)]

NPS Archaeology carried out archaeological monitoring works ahead of redevelopment at 32-34 Upper Market, Fakenham in Norfolk. The development required demolition of a recently fire-destroyed retail premises, in order to build two new retail premises and four flats on the c.720m2 site. Planning requirements were set by North Norfolk District Council. The development is in an area of high archaeological potential; the site lies immediately adjacent to and south of the 13th-century church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, with the medieval and post-medieval market place to the south. Archaeological works in 2016 consisted of monitoring works, (ENF139647) and the excavation, (ENF141267), of a small area of site which contained human skeletal remains adjacent to the current church boundary. During the monitored works in 2018 two cellars were uncovered, one with a vaulted ceiling. The removal of the footpath to the rear of the premises adjacent to the current church boundary uncovered a number of unstratified human remains, along with three intermixed burials extensively disturbed and truncated by modern works.. Monitoring works also revealed in situ burials and substantial flint wall foundation, possibly representing an earlier cemetery boundary wall. Of most interest was a vertical-sided linear feature sealed by graveyard soils and tentatively interpreted as structural, possibly a beam slot for a building fronting onto the medieval market place.

An archaeological assessment was carried out on the proposed development site. Site lies within the 12th century expansion area of the town. The site was also identified as being situated in the precinct of a medieval hospital. Despite the site being occupied by Victorian and modern buildings, the potential for archaeology is high.
