A magnetometer survey was undertaken to evaluate the site of a proposed residential development. Although geophysical anomalies were detected they did not appear to represent archaeological features. The anomalies that were detected were considered most likely to reflect the presence of ferrous litter within the soil. Any archaeological features that might have been present were likely to have been masked by the near-surface iron objects. [Au(adp)]

The desk-based assessment was relatively fruitless in identifiying archaeological sites within the immediate impact zone (although a wealth of archaeological remains occured nearby). The geophysical survey, however, located numerous features which suggested a previously unknown rich archaeological site. [AIP]

A programme of desk-top study, geomagnetic survey and small-scale strategic excavation appeared to indicate that part of the area of proposed development contained significant archaeological remains, relating to settlement, and a dating from occupation of the site during the Roman period. [Au(abr)]
