This archaeological desk-based assessment has been carried out by West Sussex Archaeology Ltd. on No. 217 Balham High Road. Rutherford House School are looking to apply for planning permission to convert the existing building into a free school. This assessment indicates that the site may contain remains associated with Roman Stane Street and a 19th century suburban villa. Its association with the Roman road has led Wandsworth Borough Council to include the front part of the site within an Archaeological Priority Area. It is recommended that the most appropriate mitigation method relating to the proposed development would be for an archaeological watching brief, although, depending upon the final agreed details of its scale, this approach could be added to or replaced by small-scale pre-determination archaeological evaluation.

This document details the results from an archaeological evaluation carried out at Durford Abbey Farm, nr. Rogate, West Sussex in December 2007. It accompanies applications for Scheduled Monument Consent and Planning Permission relating to building works proposed to be carried out at the Farm. The results have informed the design of those works in order to mitigate any impact upon the buried archaeological remains of the medieval Abbey known to have existed on the site. Details of this mitigation strategy are also contained within this document. The evaluation revealed surviving medieval masonry in four of the fourteen trenches excavated, together with a chalk sarcophagus in a fifth.

This Heritage Statement has been produced by West Sussex Archaeology Ltd in relation to Redburn Farm, Ampfield, Hampshire. The owner is looking to apply for planning permission for the conversion of the existing barn and the erection of two new dwellings to the rear. This document focus's upon the impact of the development upon any surviving heritage assets both within, and in the vicinity of, the development.

Two archaeological evaluation trenches each 30m x 1.8m were excavated The results revealed a recent dog burial, modern drains and a series of geological striations, but no significant archaeological deposits or artefacts.

This document sets out the results from a programme of archaeological works carried out by West Sussex Archaeology Ltd on behalf of the owner at 64 Fishbourne Road West, Fishbourne, West Sussex. The works were carried out in August 2018 in advance of the construction of a new boundary wall. The results failed to find any remains associated with the south wing of the Fishbourne Roman Palace, thought to exist within the immediate vicinity of the site. As a consequence, it is thought that the wing lies further to the south.

This document sets out the results from a programme of archaeological works carried out by West Sussex Archaeology Ltd on behalf the Friends of Arundel Castle Cricket Club Ltd at the Club ground, Arundel Park, Arundel, West Sussex. The works were carried out in January 2019 during the laying of a new water pipe. The only archaeological feature exposed during the works was the upper fill of a pit or ditch of unknown date.

This document sets out the results from a programme of archaeological works carried out by West Sussex Archaeology Ltd on behalf of the owner at Pitlands Farm, Up Marden, West Sussex. The works were carried out in August and September 2016 in order to evaluate an area to the north-east of the Farmhouse to inform a possible application for an extension to the property. Immediately to the north of the area to be investigated lies the remains of a substantial Roman bath house, which is a Scheduled Monument (No.1015235). The results indicated that the area of the extension has been truncated below the level of any Roman remains, possibly in the 18th or 19th century.

This document sets out the results from a programme of archaeological works carried out by West Sussex Archaeology Ltd on behalf of the owner at Pitlands Farm, Up Marden, West Sussex. The works were carried out in February 2019 in order to evaluate two areas, one for a new summer house, and the other for an access track to an existing ancillary building, to inform applications for Scheduled Monument Consent. Pitlands Farm overlies the remains of a substantial Roman bath house and other associated structures forming part of a presumed villa complex, which is a Scheduled Monument (No.1015235). The northern trench, that over the site of the summer house, revealed a north-south running ditch and a series of pits, all of medieval date. The south trench, in the area of the access track, revealed just one east-west running ditch, probably again of medieval date.

Four evaluation trenches were excavated over the locations of the proposed developments. A short section of the stone footings of a wall which once surrounded a courtyard garden were found, together with some evidence to support the theory that the 15th century portions of Chesworth House originally extended for one additional bay to the north, but not the suggested two
