Defence grouping Thetford nodal point - Thetford defences were prepared for all-round defence in June 1940 and then developed as a category 'A' nodal point (no. 4 region). Cassini ref. G30. Also, originally part of the Thetford to Brandon Demolition Belt (along the River Little Ouse) and subsequently the stop line running from the mouth of the River Orwell, via Ipswich, the River Gipping, Haughley, Tostock and the Little Ouse to Euston. These positions helped link the Suffolk coast with the Eastern Command Line. [Part source: List of Nodal Points in Eastern Command, 1940 - PRO WO 199/544].
Eastern Command: River Little Ouse demolition belt - Demolition belt between the nodal point towns of Thetford and Brandon along the River Little Ouse and extending as far west as the Great Ouse.
Eastern Command: River Orwell - River Gt. Ouse Stop Line - Eastern Command line running from mouth of the River Orwell, via Ipswich, the River Gipping, Haughley, Tostock and the Little Ouse to Euston. Then via the Little Ouse to the Great Ouse.
