Pillbox, variant. This is a double storey pillbox that is set into the shore line above the high watermark; the roof of the top storey is level with the road way. The upper level is rectangular and the lower level trapezoid, each with 3 embrasures. There are no shutters for the embrasures. Access to the top level is through a hatch in the roof, and to the lower level by hooped iron rungs down through the floor of the upper level to concrete steps. Although the hatch cover has gone, the hinges remain, as well as an iron hand rail (?). The pillbox has a commanding view along the beach at low tide and across the entrance to Lough Foyle to Donegal. The field of view from the lower level has now been partially obscured by rocks designed to prevent coastal erosion. The lower level is now inaccessible due to flooding and probable sand infill. Across the road to the rear of the pillbox are the remains of a small toilet building and the floor of what was possibly a guard hut.
