The gardener's cottage (or summerhouse) was converted into a pillbox, and strengthened on the inside with concrete. At the entrance there is a 15ins thickness of concrete. There was a fireplace (now blocked up) in the NE corner, and inside the entrance are metal footholds to the trapdoor into the top level. The ceiling of the lower level is concrete shuttered on timber. There is an embrasure set in concrete on the outside of the E side of the top level. The present entrance on the N side was probably made by the Army for access. Although there is a metal-lined, slate, pyramidal roof now, the present owner says it would have had a flat roof when in use as a pillbox, on which there was probably a Bofors gun. Another embrasure can be seen on the SW side of the pillbox. [The present owner does not wish any publicity to be given to this pillbox as it is on private land with no access to visitors].
