Extensive areas of nineteenth and twentieth century military occupation. There were two coastal batteries, 'north' and 'south', with probably two guns to each battery. CASLs and structures for radar present. The officers' mess was in the farm house that is used today for the wardens' accommodation. The NAAFI was in the now derelict Victorian fever hospital. The magazines are the original Victorian ones and have an unusual lighting arrangement whereby a form of double glazing was used behind which a candle was lit. There are many concrete bases from huts now removed. No sign of AA defences.
