A zig-zag of concrete square bases with central square voids, possibly timber lined or with remnants of timber posts cut off flush with the road surface. They run along the side of the road. Probably the remains of a roadblock.

Newbury nodal point - The defences of Newbury on the GHQ Blue Line. The defences were developed as a nodal point because Newbury was considered an important centre of regional road communications (July 1940). During 1941 it was reclassified as a Category B anti-tank island. It is shown as an anti-tank island on the map of the 'Southern Command Home Defence Programme 1940' - PRO WO 199/48. |
