Newbury nodal point - The defences of Newbury on the GHQ Blue Line. The defences were developed as a nodal point because Newbury was considered an important centre of regional road communications (July 1940). During 1941 it was reclassified as a Category B anti-tank island. It is shown as an anti-tank island on the map of the 'Southern Command Home Defence Programme 1940' - PRO WO 199/48. |
