Digital Object Identifiers

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which can be used to consistently and accurately reference digital objects and/or content. The DOIs provide a way for the ADS resources to be cited in a similar fashion to traditional scholarly materials. More information on DOIs at the ADS can be found on our help page.

An observation post with attached air raid shelter. The post has five observation slits which give views to the N, E and S. The post measures 4.55 metres by 2.65 metres and has an external height of 1.8 metres. Internally the height is 1.9 metres. The observation slits each measure 1.2 metres by 0.23 metres. The walls are 0.34 metres thick and the roof is 0.45 metres thick. The entrance from the observation post to the adjoining air raid shelter is in the E side, 6.45 metres from the south end. The air raid shelter has been constructed from corrugated iron which has been coated in cement. This structure has a curved roof. The main entrance is at the S end and there is an escape hatch at the N end. This structure measures 13.5 metres by 5 metres, and has an external height of 1.7 metres. There is an escape hatch at the N end measuring 1.25 metres by 1.55 metres, and 1.55 metres high. It is constructed of concrete blocks. There are three steps made of angle iron leading up from the hatch. At each end of the shelter is a small aperture measuring 0.45 metres by 0.35 metres, presumably for ventilation. The whole site would probably have been covered with turf. Large rocks lying to the E of the site may have been used to protect the structure from any bomb blasts. They extend out to the E for 13.4 metres.
