A stub of steel rail embedded in a circular plug which is inserted in a concrete socket. This was part of a road block where 'hairpin' rails were used over the area of pavements and road. This fragment is on a raised bank close to the wall of the Church Institute, adjacent to the pavement. [The recorder lived 200 yards away during the war and observed the Home Guard regularly practising the erection of the rails, usually on a Sunday when there was little traffic].
