Our archaeological staff work to protect, record and present the local archaeological heritage of East Sussex. We give advice on the management, preservation or understanding of archaeological remains, as well as advicing the local district councils on archaeological matters relating to development control. Archaeological remains across the county are mapped and documented in our Historic Environment record which currently holds over 8000 sites. This is used to monitor new development, aid research and plan effective conservation. We also run small research projects and excavations for volunteers from the amateur sector.
