Results for P F Ryder

"Peter Ryder has been a freelance investigator and recorded of historic buildings since the mid 1980s, prior to which he worked first for the South Yorkshire Archaeology Service and then in Northumberland on the National Resurvey of Buildings of Architectural and Historic Interest. He has a number of longstanding interests, mostly in the medieval period - timber-framed buildings, general ecclesiastical and domestic architecture, the towers and bastles of the Borders, and cross slab grave covers. More recently he has diversified into more recent structures, in particular Nonconformist Chapels and Meetings Houses; he also has some experience of underground exploration and survey work. His publications include 'Saxon Churches in South Yorkshire (South Yorkshire County Council 1982), Medieval Buildings of Yorkshire (Moorland Publishing 1982) Medieval Churches of West Yorkshire (West Yorkshire County Archaeology Service 1993) and (as part-author) the 1992 revision of Pevsner's Northumberland (Penguin 'Buildings of England' series), and he has written numerous academic articles. He has recently completed a series of Archaeological Assessments covering medieval churches within the Diocese of Durham, and is working on a similar project on behalf of the Diocese of Newcastle."
