Abstract: |
A watching brief revealed evidence for an substantial ditch running on a north to south alignment and the backfill produced medieval pottery of 11th to 14th century date. Given the proximity of St.Helen's Church it was likely that it was associated with the history of this building and was possibly a section of the surrounding ditch (fossa) contemporary with the late Anglo-Saxon or early Norman phases of architecture. A Roman coin from the reign of Emperor Hadrian was also found. [Au(adp)] |
