Abstract: |
Work to improve the setting and condition of St. Ruan's Well, Grade, in Cornwall was co-ordinated by Cornwall Archaeological Unit in 2000 - 2001. The work included scrub clearance, drainage, infilling an eroded gully in front of the building, consolidation of the fabric and fencing. The work was preceded by detailed recording and buildings analysis. This showed that although it contains pieces of medieval carved stonework, the building in its present form is not a medieval structure. It is likely to be of 17th century origin, underwent a major restoration in the mid 19th century, and then had further repairs in the late 19th or early 20th century. |
