Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken at the Manor House, High Street, Morcott, Rutland, during groundworks associated with the construction of a new drive. The scheme also entailed the reopening of an original gateway. A cobbled surface (undated but perhaps relating to an early phase of the house) was located in the area closest to the house. A retaining wall was also located, at the edge of higher ground containing the existing gardens. This suggests the former presence of terracing to take account of the rise in ground level west of the front of the house. Two stone drains were located, one of them cutting probable demolition deposits associated with the wall. |
