Abstract: |
The resistance survey over the lawned area failed to identify any clearly defined structural remains. It is likely that a rubble spread above the buried archaeological remains masked responses from the remains. In addition, it is possible that there was little electrical contrast between the features and the soil. The GPR survey over the terraces in the west of the garden produced some anomalies of interest. However, the data were confused by the high level of disturbance on the site and modern services. The GPR data collected on the lawn over the postulated position of the cloisters and Chapter House proved disappointing with no clearly defined responses at depth being discernible in the data. As with the resistance survey a rubble spread and little dielectric contrast could explain the lack of positive results. However, a small GPR survey was undertaken within the trench and appears to have successfully located several graves. |
