Abstract: |
In April 2003, North Pennines Heritage Trust undertook an archaeological assessment of land adjacent to Westlakes Science and Technology Park near Whitehaven. The study area consists of an area of rolling enclosed pasture to the east of the existing Science and Technology Park, in the parish of St Bees in west Cumbria. The work comprised a full photographic survey of all field boundaries followed by the excavation of linear trenches across selected field boundaries. The results of the fieldwork ascertained that the field boundaries date exclusively from the 18th and 19th centuries. No evidence of pre-enclosure activity was recovered from the survey. |
