Abstract: |
Transport for London (TfL) has been tasked with implementing the Cycle Hire Scheme within central London by summer 2010. Approximately 10, 200 docking points at around 400 sites at a density of approximately nine sites per square kilometre are required. An Archaeological Impact Assessments was carried out, for sites where it was deemed necessary, to identify if further archaeological investigation would be required. A generic Written Scheme of Investigation was written for all sites requiring further archaeological investigation. Docking station 01/615127 was deemed to need further archaeological investigation. This investigation consisted of an archaeological watching brief during goundworks for the docking station. Initially 3 trail pits were excavated along the length of the docking station footprint. All 3 trial pits came down onto cellars between 0.4m and 0.5m below ground level. Natural geology was not reached. Due to health and safety reasons no further watching brief was carried. The cellars were associated with the adjacent buildings and currently in use. |
