Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during ground disturbance associated with path widening and other improvements to the A30 near Bagshot. Three areas of potential archaeological interest had been identified, but the extent of the disturbance within two was considered to be too limited to require an active archaeological response. Therefore, only the more substantial works in the area of the Jolly Farmer public house, where an earlier inn may once have lain, were monitored. The majority of the groundworks were shallow, and would not have affected archaeological remains. All of the more substantial excavations examined revealed a sequence which was entirely of modern made ground and services. It was concluded that no further archaeological involvement with the works would be necessary. [AIP] |
