In order to characterise the archaeological potential of land adjacent to 5 Dowches Drive, Kelvedon, Essex, the Heritage Network was commissioned by Oxbury Chartered Surveyors on behalf of Orwell Housing Association Ltd., to undertake an archaeological field evaluation. This work was a requirement of the planning consent granted by the local planning authority. Two trenches were excavated across the site, revealing only three modern quarry pits. No other archaeological finds, features or deposits were present in any of the trial trenches. On the basis of the results of the evaluation, the risk that the proposed development might disturb significant archaeological remains may be considered to be Low for all periods, though, the potential significance of such remains, if they should be present, is considered to be High.
