Introduction

This resource consists of core fields from the National Museums and Galleries of Wales's Collection Management System. It consists of over 141,760 records relating to its British archaeology collections and includes material held in the National Museum and Gallery Cardiff, the Roman Legionary Museum Caerleon and Segontium Roman Museum.

Work on this database began in 1990 and is still on-going. However, it is now at a stage where it broadly reflects the extent of NMGW's collections, particularly with reference to Wales. It is therefore presented here as an index which it is hoped will encourage study of the collections.

The information presented for each record includes: place name, grid reference, object descriptive name, artefact type, period, material, species, free text description, and museum accession number.
