Digital Object Identifiers

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which can be used to consistently and accurately reference digital objects and/or content. The DOIs provide a way for the ADS resources to be cited in a similar fashion to traditional scholarly materials. More information on DOIs at the ADS can be found on our help page.

Introduction

The Prehistory of Britain and Ireland
Image © Aaron Watson

The Prehistory of Britain and Ireland project aimed to provide a new account of the later prehistory (Mesolithic to late pre-Roman Iron Age) of these islands based on the results of development-led fieldwork. During 2002–3, information was systematically gathered from grey literature fieldwork reports held in HERs across England, Scotland and Wales, with more selective coverage of Ireland.

The spreadsheets, presented on the downloads page, list the reports consulted and give basic details of the date and character of the prehistoric archaeology from each site. They were created purely for use by the project team, but have been made available as an additional resource for readers of the monograph generated by the project (Bradley, 2007: The Prehistory of Britain and Ireland).

The lists serve to reveal the empirical basis for the interpretations presented in that book. They do not provide a comprehensive record of development-led fieldwork in Britain and Ireland up to 2003, for which other resources such as HERs and the Archaeological Investigations Project should be consulted.
