Description: | Clay lining of pit [1021]. |
Notes: | Survives almost completely and becomes noticeably damper and stickier below depth of 1.2 m. Not fully excavated in 1998, not known what work done in 1999. Extends under flint floor 1016 becoming the make-up layer where flints are set. |
Composition: | yellow with occasional pale blue patches, firm and hard at towards base firm but damp and sticky, sandy clay and containing 1-5% flint pebbles and cobbles, angular to sub rounded and 2mm-20cm in size. Some groupings / lines of flint cobbles between 5 and 30cm thick (at base). |
