Context Number: | 1743 |
Description: | Small section of wall in House 1 butting 1162, replacing earlier number 1159. |
Notes: | Wall 1743 abutts wall 1162/1163 and it is more than likely that it also abutted wall 1161in the area truncated by the Ogham pit (1170). Therefore, 1743 would appear to have been a very short partition defining a very small room between walls 1161, 1746, and 1743. 1743 is the latest addition enclosing the little room to the NW. Otherwise - quite flimsy construction with just enough spare within the construction cut to fit the wall in, unlike wall 1745 which has a side trench filled with aggregate. Section no: 345 |
Composition: | Flints of 10-15cm, unworked. 3 poorly sorted courses with the bottom course narrow but widening at the top course. Bonded by by aggregate mix of fine gravel, silt and CBM crush. No mortar surviving. Facings are facing Nw and SE and wall is 85cm long x 66cm wide x 8cm high. |
