An overview of three broad areas of research -- cultural, chronological, and behavioural -- as manifest in Mesolithic and Palaeolithic studies respectively. Broad cultural studies such as Grahame Clark's for the Mesolithic and D A E Garrod's for the Palaeolithic, the advent of radiocarbon dating techniques, and the application of anthropological and ecological studies are considered. The further publication of sites and the development of ecological/anthropological emphases on adaptation in preference to linear progress are seen as the way forward. | |||||
