Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Recent evidence for Dublin's origins is set in the context of other European towns. The areas excavated (Wood Quay/Fishamble Street) appear to represent the dun settled in 914 - with strong Anglo-Saxon influence - rather than the longphort of 841 established by the Scandinavians, which has not yet been located archaeologically. There is no evidence that the trading station developed into the town and it is argued that Dublin was a deliberate foundation. | |
