Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Summary account of a long-running archaeological project at a gravel quarry at Poole Harbour, Dorset. Although an evaluation in 1989 had suggested there was relatively little of archaeological interest at the site, in 1992 a watching brief demonstrated that this was not the case. Professional staff and volunteers from the Wareham and District Archaeology and Local History Society and elsewhere have now been working at the site for twelve years, revealing evidence for use of the landscape over many thousands of years. Mesolithic exploitation, Bronze Age settlement and Roman pottery manufacture on an industrial scale are mentioned in particular. One further season of excavation is anticipated. LD | |||||||||
