Abstract:
Robert Trett</xb> (54) reports on the `Circumstances of discovery' (allegedly by metal detection) and J V S Megaw & M Ruth Megaw (55--69) discuss `The cast bronze head probably from Chepstow: form, function and dating'. The artefact is a heavily stylised mount, probably representing a bull's head, and has several parallels from Britain dating to the LIA or RB periods. The metallic composition is examined in two appendices: `Analysis of a bronze head from Gwent' by Robert Jones (69) and `Further analysis of a bronze head from Gwent' by J P Northover (69--70). An `Analysis of organic material from the horn cores' by Carl Heron (70--1) identifies a residue of beeswax from lost-wax casting.
