Abstract:
Two further pre-Conquest building phases were discovered, including evidence of a separate building to E of the 'New Minster' founded by AD 909. Part of a decorated standing stone cross and a carved slab from early 10th century contexts are reported, together with a summary of the Saxon graveyard evidence. Discussion of origins of the parish of the 'New Minster' and Free Chapel Royal. The church occupies the site of a late Roman cemetery. Au(abr)
